Hi I am Penne Schulz. My passion has always been about relationships. I began in the field to help people heal themselves and their relationships. While I love running Hillside Counseling and mentoring other therapists, my true calling is working with couples and helping individuals heal from trauma.
Hi, I am Penne Schulz. I was born and raised in North Texas. I am an an entrepreneur and an adventurer at heart. In my early 20s I moved to Alaska -- for 20 years. There I changed career paths from marketing/business to psychology. I was fascinated with the psychology of relationships and what makes us “tick.” In 2001 I graduated from Alaska Pacific University with my Master’s of Science in Counseling Psychology. And set out to mainly do couples counseling - helping relationships find, restore, and create intimacy. My counseling path was broad and I learned and helped people through all sorts of twists and turns and traumas. I had, indeed, found my true north. In 2005 I founded my private practice, Hillside Counseling at the foot of the Chugach Mountain Range in Anchorage. And, in 2011 I headed back to Texas and continued doing what I love to do: providing therapy. I established Hillside Counseling here in North Texas and added more people, to help more people!
I have a passion for helping people move toward their healthier selves, moving through unknown passages, healing broken-ness, and creating healing and happier solutions through their own vulnerability, authenticity, and intimacy with self and each other.
There are multiple diagnoses that can be labeled and addressed. But at the end of the day, I am working with people. And, people wear their symptoms and diagnoses individually, uniquely, and wherever they are in life -- and those personal factors make a big difference. I believe in the power to shift our lives and make the changes we are striving for, inside and out.
I am a holistic (body / mind / spirit) practioner, and I am a truth seeker. When we are walking in our personal path of truth, things get easier, doors open, and peace and understanding become part of the internal dialogue.
I have multi-modality experience and training; and extensive use and success with Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) model, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Energy Psychotherapy, and Compassionate Inquiry. I employ the use of Hypnotherapy when helpful. I have a psychodynamic bent -- which means that I consider subconscious underpinnings -- which sometimes means looking back to see what needs fixing so we can move forward.
