Hi, I am Elissa Jeter. My favorite word while in counseling is “Challenge.” I invite you to look at different aspects of your life- habits, thought processes, relationships etc – and challenge whether they are more helpful or hurtful to you.
Hi, I am Elissa Jeter. My career path may look a little different than other counselors. I received my Master’s in Community Mental Health Counseling at the University of Rochester in Western New York. Following graduation, I joined the US Army National Guard as a Behavioral Health Technician, which ultimately led me to Texas. As a military member, I had the opportunity to provide Behavioral Health Counseling to Veterans, active military members, and their families. I earned my license in Texas providing Equine Assisted Counseling to Veterans, First Responders, and their families. Although I have experience in many aspects of counseling, my passion lies with working with Crisis, PTSD, and with Veterans as they transition to civilian life along with other life transitions. I work with clients ages 14 years and older.
I believe in a holistic approach to Counseling, focusing on every aspect of one's life including Spiritual, Emotional, Behavioral, Cognitive, Social, Financial, and others. While my theoretical approach is founded in Cognitive- Behavioral Therapy, I believe that there are other important aspects to a person that should also be addressed in counseling. Therefore, I also include aspects of DBT, Existential, Emotion Focused and even Art in my sessions.
My favorite word while in counseling is “Challenge.” I invite you to look at different aspects of your life-habits, thought processes, relationships etc - and challenge whether they are more helpful or hurtful to you. Are these things serving you or holding you back?
Counseling is an exciting time of growth, filled with many emotions. I hope we can walk through this journey together!
Elissa
