My journey

I consider the opportunity to help others a privilege. This guiding principal dictates my commitment to treat people with dignity and the utmost care and concern in a collaborative, therapeutic relationship. I also believe a sense of humor is essential to emotional health, well-being and happiness. Though we may work on challenging aspects of your life, we might also share a laugh or two along the way. My approaches include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Therapy, and motivational enhancement with a foundation in Cognitive Behavior Therapy. However, it is in the individual combination and application of those theories that I find usually provide the best results. Simply put, often an eclectic approach lends itself to individualizing your therapy, creating the best opportunity in helping you meet your needs.

I look forward to the opportunity to get to know and help you. and maybe sharing a smile a long the way.

My approach

Hi, I am James Bernard. I have spent the last 14 years helping people deal with a variety of challenges in their lives through education and counseling. And, I know, sometimes considering a change can be overwhelming. My journey started in Louisiana, where I grew up. I earned my undergraduate degree from LSU in 1994. I eventually relocated to the DFW Metroplex in 1998, at which time I worked in education and eventually education administration. While rewarding, I decided that I wanted to make a difference – in a different way. So, I went back to graduate school and completed my Licensed Professional Counselor education and training and earned my Master of Counseling  Education degree in 2006 from the University of North Texas. Since then I have worked in both inpatient, outpatient, and private practice settings. While I have worked with many ages providing multi-level care from crisis stabilization to path of purpose clarifications, I currently specialize working with adults providing individual and couples counseling.
